I know what you’re thinking– “Can drinking a smoothie really make my skin look better? ”
Well, yeah– it might.
Eating the right foods can certainly set the stage for gorgeous and glowing skin. When you fill your diet with fruit and veggies, (along with protein and some fat) you’ll be feeding your body the nutrients it needs to fight inflammation, produce collagen, and balance digestion.
Let’s look at some of the key players in this Beauty Smoothie, shall we?
You’ve heard that vitamin C is important for keeping your immune system healthy, but did you know it’s critical for healthy skin? Vitamin C plays an important role in making collagen (collagen keeps skin and joints supple), plus it helps to limit the damage from UV light exposure. Polysaccharides found in kiwi can actually double collagen production. Kiwi also has lutein, an antioxidant that helps protect skin from UV light.
Like kiwi, strawberries are high in vitamin C. They also have antioxidants that slow inflammation and oxidative stress– two things responsible for the aging process!
Hemp and Chia Seeds
Omega 3 fatty acids help manage inflammation in the body and may help decrease oil production and clogged pores. Hemp seeds also have protein, while chia seeds are rich with iron and calcium.
Smoothies like this one are also packed with fiber, which helps us feel full and helps waste move through the system. They’re hydrating, they’re easy to make, and they’re perfect for breakfast on the go.
2 kiwi, peeled
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/4 of an avocado
10-12oz water or almond milk
2 TBL hemp seeds
2 tsp. chia seeds
- Combine everything in a blender and blend until smooth.
The next time you’re reaching for chips for an after-work snack, try making this Beauty Smoothie instead. You’ll be getting some skin-saving nutrients that might just lead to fewer wrinkles and spots and a little extra protection from sun damage.
I’ll drink to that (so corny, but I couldn’t help it)
